A good attendance of members at this meeting were treated to an excellent presentation on ‘Miniature Orchids’ by Zsuzsa Seder of Spicesotic Plants. Rather than using slides Zsuzsa illustrated her talk with actual plants many of which were in flower. Obvious miniatures included Masdevallias and Pleurothallids but the range extended to species such as Aerangis and Neofinetia fronm S.E.Asia. Magnifying glasses were provided for us to see the finer details of the minute flowers as the plants were circulated. Of particular interest was the genus Chiloschista whose species flower from the roots of the plant which has no leaves.
Zsuzsa explained the growing conditions of each plant and ended by taking questions. We then had the opportunity to purchase plants from the selection she had brought with her. A most interesting and informative evening enjoyed by those present.
The table show was won by Joan and Jack Butcher with a fine plant of Rhyncholaelia glauca.
