The March Meeting

This month was an in house Plant Clinic. We must all be growing our orchids well as the only plant was a rather sickly Trichopilia suavis which on examination was diagnosed has having a virus. As these can be transmitted to other plants it was advised to be consigned to the compost heap!

Chemical treatments for pests and diseases on orchids were discussed including Acetamiprid which is the main ingredient in Starting Provado. Roseclear is another useful treatment for fungoid infection. Copper based treatments are a good way of controlling slugs and snails in the greenhouse. When preparing plants for showing cleaning leaves with a pad of cotton wool dipped in milk and rinsing with water is recommended.A Goood attendance

The orchid of the month on the show table was Dendrobium harvyanum shown by Joan and Jack Butcher.
